For thousands of years, we told stories from one generation to the next. Our stories help us to understand how the world is ordered and our place within it. But what good are old stories if the wisdom they contain is not shared?

In Never Alone, players take on the roles of Nuna, a young Iñupiaq girl and an Arctic fox, in an atmospheric puzzle platformer that combines traditional folklore, stories, settings, and characters handed down over many generations by Alaska Native people whose roots and heritage date back millennia.

Featuring imagery and themes drawn directly from Iñupiat and other Alaska Native cultures, Never Alone features striking visuals, emphasizes the sensibilities and perspective of these indigenous Arctic people and requires players to work cooperatively to succeed in challenging and harsh environments. [x]

Can we also talk about how this is being created by the first indigenous game company in the US?

I saw the dev session at Eurogamer and the story of the studio is absolutely amazing. They had the most beautiful photo of one of the most respected storytellers, a woman in her eighties, utterly delighted by the game, controller in hands.

Definitely pick this up and support the wonderful people behind this game.

This is the type of game I’ve been waiting forever for.

I want it

I’ve posted about Never Alone previously; I wanted to point out that it is being released on November 18, 2014.

ATTENTION fans of captn-sara-holmes:

Sara suffered a head injury today. She is going to be okay, but the current prognosis is 4-5 weeks to be fully back on her feet. Right now, her thought processes are sluggish and she can barely type.

She asked me to post and let everyone know that both Counterpart and Keep You Safe Here With Me are, of necessity, on indefinite hold, for which she is sincerely sorry. (Even once she’s mostly recovered from the injury, there will be Real Life Stuff which will likely take precedence over fanfic as far as getting caught up, so I’m afraid there’s no way to offer an estimated return date. I wouldn’t start holding your breath until probably the new year, though.)

PLEASE DO ME A FAVOR and reblog this so that Sara’s fans who do not follow me have a better chance of seeing it. (I’ll also do a post on AO3 for her subscribers there.)

Thank you! Everyone please keep Sara in your thoughts!

Fandom news, everyone — please pass it on. I’m a huge fan of Counterpart in particular, and I’m hoping Sara will have a smooth recovery unmarred by worries about her fanfic or folks pestering her to post.

“Miss Major is a black, formerly incarcerated, transgender elder. She has been an activist and advocate in her community for over forty years.  She was at the Stonewall uprising in 1969, became politicized at Attica, was an original member of the first all-transgender gospel choir, and is a father, mother, grandmother, and grandfather to her own children, and to many in the transgender community.

Currently, Miss Major is the Executive Director of TGI Justice where she instills hope and a belief in a better future to the girls that are currently incarcerated and those coming home.” – from the Transgender/Intersex Justice Project website

Every queer person of my generation owes Miss Major a debt of gratitude. She needs us right now.

"This past week Miss Major’s apartment caught fire and almost all of her personal belongings were severely damaged. Thankfully, she and her pooch Moose were unharmed. She is currently looking for a new place to live, and once she is able to re-establish permanent housing, she’s going to need support to refurnish her home in addition to simply covering her monthly bills, health costs, etc.

Please help by inviting your friends and networks to join this circle, increasing your monthly donation, or making an additional one-time donation. Because we take care of our own.”

sunshinedorkface:

I have Keratoconus which is a genetic condition that causes the cornea to turn cone shaped. It makes it hard to see, because bright lights form halo effects, obscuring the vision, and making it difficult to read, and in my case, draw. The day before my birthday, I went to a specialist, who gave me three options; Cross linking eye surgery, (which is still considered experimental in the United States, and not covered by insurance) Intact lenses (also not covered by insurance) or complete cornea transplants (Which is covered by insurance, but much riskier than the other two listed).

Although there is some hope, since the Intacts is currently going through trial runs and studies for it to be approved by most insurances, I will learn by october, if I will be an acceptible participant for the study, and receive the intacts at either a reduced price, or not pay at all.

But, worse case scenerio, I will have to pay $5000-9000 per eye.

I cannot afford that, on my walmart salary. My family is barely skating by with what we have, and we still struggle every month to make ends meet. There is absolutely no way we would be able to pay for this surgery.

And, that really scares me.

As an artist, and a writer, I depend so much on my eyes. Keratoconus is not curable, and will only worsten, if they go untreated. I NEED this surgery, but I can’t pay for it, with the few hundred bucks I get from putting up with walmart customers.

So, I turn to you, Tumblr. This is very hard for me to do, since I was raised to believe that if someone can work for their money, they very well should, and reserve the free help to the people who truly cannot help themselves. But, if you feel like you can, and want to donate, please feel free to send that money to my Paypal, at maryzolgarcia90@yahoo.com

If you want to help in another way, please spread my Commissioning Info or feel free to commission a piece of artwork from me directly by sending me an ask here, note me at my Dev.artor Email me your information at the same Email stated for my Paypal.

Simply re-blogging this really helps as well.

Thank you for taking your time for reading this out.

Breaking news: The D.C. Appeals Court just killed Net Neutrality.

This could be the end of the Internet as we know it. But it doesn’t have to be.

Tell the FCC to restore Net Neutrality: http://bit.ly/1iOOjoe

they want to make the internet like tv. with channels and paying to get to specific websites and things. net neutrality = not doing that

This impacts every internet user. Please signal boost the hell out of this and sign the petition if you are American

I do not reblog things like this very often, but this affects me both personally and my business as a freelance artist.

In the economy here; cash is already strapped as it is. You bet your ass companies would suck the ever living life out of misc. art sites.

I don’t want it to ever come down to me choosing between groceries or purchasing a new tier package via comcast to be able to access tumblr or DeviantArt (let alone not guaranteeing I’ll even be seen by my customer base since they may not want to pay out their asses either). It doesn’t seem important to most, but I do 90% of my business online entirely.

Please sign up, fight for this and share it with your followers/friends/family and urge them to give them hell as well.

Not writing related, but this is incredibly important. While we pay for service via ISPs, the internet has been a relatively free space where everyone, no matter their income level, is able to connect, access a wealth of information, and express themselves. The Internet has become a major part of our culture as human beings and the notion that ISPs might be able to limit what sites I can access unless I pay them more is utterly sickening. A lot of us are cash strapped as is, and I’d rather not be limited even more by someone else’s greed. Net Neutrality is essential and I hope you guys will understand why it needs to remain.

-Morgan

P.S. Signal boost this if you’re able.

Save the viking goats!!!

Johanna Thorvaldsdóttir’s Icelandic goat farm (Háafell) is facing foreclosure in September, resulting in the entire goat flock being butchered – unless enough funds are raised to save it!

There are less than 820 Icelandic goats in the entire world – they are an endangered species. Almost half of them will be lost if this farm is not saved. I visited Háafell 2 years ago and every goat I draw is rooted in this place. Any little bit helps 🙂

If anyone I know eats any of these goats, we’re not friends anymore.

There are only 13 days left on the fundraiser and it’s still got 42% to go!  Save the adorable babies!!!!

The farm has met their original goal, so the goats will NOT go to slaughter and the farm is safe, but they are asking that the signal keeps getting boosted. Donations are still needed to make the farm sustainable. Money made past their original goal will go to building a milking room and obtaining cheese making equipment, long-term investments that are sorely needed if the farm is to continue and prosper. And for those who like perks (in addition to that warm, fuzzy feeling), there are some pretty neat incentives still up for grabs on the fundraising page.
