Steve and Bucky together

Part 5 of Switchblade Knife. Probably the last update of this universe until after Christmas now as I’ve not got any more drawn and ready to go. I may post some of the sketches and in progress stuff but can’t work on the Peggy, Sam and Natasha designs until I’ve got everything else done.

Other artworks in the Switchblade Knife AU series:

Captain America

So, Cara has these punk versions of various characters, some of which are Marvel ones, and I’ve always found them to be so fun… After she drew one of Bucky, I just got hit with the urge to draw him and Steve, and so I did. But not just because I just felt like doodling them up.

Cara is a super huge sweetheart and she’s had a craaazy year, and I just really, really wanted to draw something for her as a thank you for being so insanely fabulous. I remember way back when we actually did a collab together (SO FUN, REMEMBER THAT, CARA?) and since then she’s been such an enormous inspiration to me and I always love looking at her art; there’s always such vibrancy to it. I strive for that same life to be shown within my own illustrations.

Love them! Their faces XD Love.

And finally here’s Bucky from Switchblade Knife series.

Because I didn’t have the bandwidth to upload a decent size picture for a couple of days I was able to notice and fix a few things. He no longer has clown shoes (the one on the left bumped right up at the toe) and he actually has thighs (his legs were waaaay too skinny) and he has eye make up. I always meant to give him eye make up. I like it and also in The Winter Soldier he has the grease paint thing. Anyway I am reasonably pleased with this. I wanted him in braces/suspenders and the singlet/vest/I don’t know what it’s called in the US he’s wearing is a tribute to Bucky in Man Out Of Time. His belt buckle is Sargent stripes. He mostly wears black, white, silver and shades of grey. Steve keeps buying him stuff in colours from Good Will but he wont wear most of it. He will wear the rainbow braces/suspenders to pride and he’s quite fond of the blue pea coat. He also has a leather jacket that I’ll get around to drawing at some point.

I wasn’t sure until I’d drawn this if I was going to colour his left arm silver but I like the tattoo being just the lines and the red star. The tat on the inside of his right arm is a fancy ‘S’. Steve has an ornate B tattooed on his chest, intertwined with the scar from his heart surgery.

I’ve been trying to sort out what to call the series I’ve been drawing. Haven’t been able to figure anything out and I’m fed up of calling it the punk Steve series as that doesn’t work with all the other pictures I’m drawing that aren’t Steve.

Finished the Steve/Bucky picture today. Going to take a break before working on the Peggy, Sam and Natasha pictures as I’ve got loads of Xmas crafting and prep to do.

While painting I’ve been listening to a lot of Green Day and some Sex Pistols and a bunch of random stuff that’s nowhere near punk. I would have listed to The Living End but I don’t have it on my computer right now. Not even sure if it’s on the external drives, I think we still have the CDs. I have White Noise on the external drive but I wanted older stuff.
When I’m stuck for titles I mainly just use song lyrics and these lines from Mother Mary by Foxboro Hot Tubs (basically Green Day) seemed to work.

“Do you want to elope tonight
Getting lost in the shadows
All dressed up like a switchblade knife
Let’s hang in love from the gallows”
So I’m going with ‘(All Dressed Up Like a) Switchblade Knife’ for the series name. Probably will just write Switchblade Knife series most of the time.

2nd Steve picture in this series. You can see his shield tattoo in this one and I added the wings from his helmet. The dog tags are his father’s. Bucky sometimes teases him about his big boots and big hair trying to make him seem taller but it must work because Bucky often forgets Steve’s not 10ft tall unless he’s curled up around broken ribs or something.

Steve Part One

Fandom: Modern, Non-powered AU of MCU
Characters/Pairings: Pre Serum Steve Rogers
Rating: G
Content: Punk skinny Steve
Artist’s Notes: Pose very much inspired by this awesome Supernatural cosplay. I’ve been wanting to draw fighty, bitey, righteous skinny Steve for a while. I know there are quite a few punk versions of the guys out there but I still couldn’t help trying my own. I have a few more art works to do in this series. I’ve got a punk/rockabilly Bucky drawn and started on another and plans for Peggy, Natasha and Sam too. Oh and a couple picture of Steve and Bucky. I really wish I could write. Or draw story comics. I want to know more about these guys. Steve goes to protests and ends up in fights with counter protestors or just guys on the street who are shit to women or who use the word gay as an insult. He’s got a complicated relationship with pain.

I tried to fit in hints of his Cap uniform. I really want his boots though.
