In addition to Ms. Marvel (a comic about identity and alienation with a diverse cast and a distinctly feminist slant) debuting at the number two slot, you know what I see?
Three of the ten are the stories of teenage girls, AIMED at pre-teen to teenage girls. Â Two more (Amulet) are aimed at both boys and girls, but feature a central female character (Emily) and her single mother (Karen.) Â And one is a superhero comic about a rarity in the female world: a female character who is not a âMs.â who is not a âLadyâ or a âSheâ or a âMadamâ or a âGirl.â Â She is just HAWKEYE, just like the man who carries the title, and that is encouraged and accepted within the narrative.
Seven of the ten are the stories of girls. Â
But girls donât buy comics, right? Â 8)
And boys definitely donât buy comics about girls.
Must be aliens buyinâ all them comics.Â
Marvel story arc where Ultron comes back but accidentally downloaded like a zillion different fanfics with one of Kamala Khanâs most popular fics being his fucking plan to take over the Earth
So the Avengers have to run around with Kamala like âOkay what happens nextâ and Kamala is just âOh god theyâll never trust the fandom ever again this is going to horrifyingâ
Captain Marvel has just finished. The credits have rolled, the casuals have left the building. The music swells, then fades. Cut to a close up of a wall. A Captain Marvel poster is stuck up on it. Pull back to reveal a young Muslim girl putting that poster on her wall.
i whipped up a kamala to hopefully explain some things! i used this process for nat + sharon, cammi + drax, and nova rich (sorta). all of this was done in photoshop cs5 using kaymurphâs old brushes
if you have trouble coming up with base colors, design-seeds is a good place to go, even just for general inspiration. i used their strawberry palette to start this piece out.

Beautiful and flawless character designs by Jamal Campbell:
Quick tip for those who may not know, Kamala Khanâs first name is pronounced âKam-Laâ as opposed to âKa-Ma-Laâ
Might not seem like a big deal, but sheâs the first (and thus far only) South Asian superhero to have her own title, and the closest thing some of us have to representation in comics, so I really hope people get her name right đ
Anyway, canât wait for issue #7!
I did not know this and had totally been Doing It Wrong. I will try to remember!
