Soundtrack: Over and Over – Hot Chip (possibly the stimmiest song ever)

(Actual video is silent, that’s just what I was listening to.)

Stimming with my hands and my (sadly, broken) Tangle Jr Fuzzy. Don’t know if what I do is technically flapping? IDK. It’s a kind of weird movement I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else do, but it feels right. Often both hands, but mostly right handed, as per this. (Left hand is steadying my laptop.)

I’m so glad Thomas is doing better. My partner and I have the October Daye books at the top of our wishlist, but being just after Christmas we couldn’t afford to buy them right away and we figured sending you some cash via Paypal meant you’d be able to just dump all of it onto your credit card (or into buying chocolate or Lush products to recover – self-care is important!) without waiitng for royalty cheques. All our love – iamshadow & kath-ballantyne, Sydney, Australia

Thank you so very, very much.

I am so glad to have my baby boy home.

Hey peeps, good news. IT’S PAST MIDNIGHT IN SYDNEY. If you’re west of Sydney, get ready for the end of this fucking hell year! IT’S ALMOST OVER. If I had some sage, I’d burn it just to exorcise it for good. (And yes, that is the Harbour Bridge lit up rainbow while Bowie and Prince play.)

Commissioned Epilogue to Man Out of Time

araniaart:

One of my ALL TIME favorite Captain America comics is “Man Out of Time” – a fantastically written miniseries by Mark Waid and GORGEOUSLY illustrated by Jorge Molina ( @jorgemolinam ) that retells the story of Cap coming out of the ice.  It deals with the weight of loss of his removal from his own time, greiving over Bucky’s loss (and remembering him after the Brubaker soft retcon of being about 20 when he “died”).

One of the most striking moments to me is at one point in a flashback, Cap is talking to Bucky about what they want to do after the war is over.  Bucky says that he always wanted to visit the Grand Canyon – he never saw it – and it is a part/represents of what they’re fighting the war for.

At the end of the comic, as Cap has some time to himself, he travels to the Grand Canyon for Bucky, as a way to deal with his loss, and this moment happens:

And, well, this moment always gets me.  Steve going there, drawing Bucky, and “showing him” the Grand Canyon in the only way he can.  It’s his way to try to start to move forward.

It was always a dream of mine to see an epilogue, of Steve being actually able to take him there in person after he finds out he’s still alive.  This weekend, I was able to make that a reality.

I had the distinct privilege to be able to commission Jorge Molina himself (the original artist of Man out of Time), at Wizard World New Orleans for just that scene, and here it is:

image

I am BLOWN AWAY by the work he did – this is a traditional media piece, done in inks and copic markers, and the values he worked in, the expressions, the dynamic pose that conveys the awe of the location, and yet still have it be a tender, quiet moment between the two of them.  in the Grand Canyon, Steve with the sketchbook, hand squeezing Bucky’s shoulder, both masks off and taking in the natural majesty of the canyon.

And God, to see Bucky looking honest-to-god /HAPPY/.

;__________;

Thank you SO much, Jorge, this is everything I could have wanted and more.

Maybe I’ll be able to (ditigally) color this some day 🙂

This is incredibly beautiful and so damn uplifting that I could cry. The amount of detail for a con commission is stunning. It’s like he always had that picture in his head, and was just waiting for an opportunity to create it.

(Also doesn’t hurt my love for it that it doesn’t joss my Man Out Of Time sequel fic at all. :D)

Art for (so come on) Put On Your Warpaint by IamShadow21  (fic not safe for work but the art is)

“All her life she has wanted to run and run and run, but only now does
she have the body to do it.”

Peggy Au where she gets the serum and having another Super Soldier along changes things. Explicit, Peggy/Steve and Peggy/Steve/Bucky

1st is Steve, Bucky and Peggy during the war and the 2nd is the three of them in Avengers timeline before the battle of New York. Coulson had some input in the costumes. Buck is not happy AT ALL.

I have been waiting for this one to go live for a while. I adore the fic and want so much more in this universe. Shadow very patiently waited for me to finish these artworks before posting. I have more I want to do but health and other deadlines are getting in the way so when I do get around to them they’ll be added to the series on AO3 and posted here.

My not-a-bang fic is live! I’ve been working on this one since January, and kath_ballantyne made me gorgeous art to go with it! If you like super soldier Peggy punching Hydra in the face and banging Steve like a barn door, this is the fic for you!

Hey iamshadow21, it’s your fic! 😀

Fun note: Wal-Mart now carries Marvel knee high socks, and in addition to the shield, Cap’s has little wings.

Even MORE fun fact, I bought a pair and snipped the wings off to use them on a hat.

OH MY GOD THAT’S AMAZING.

TONY, STOP. NO MEANS NO.

(Tony would totally want to do all kinds of tests on Steve’s headwings. He would also get very very angry at the lack of logical physics surrounding their ability to make Steve fly.)

Barely started this, and I am already in love with everything about it. The handle on the yarn is gorgeous – it’s Moda Vera Beetle, a 50/50 cotton acrylic blend – and the radial lines of the faggoting lace (not an epithet, a historical knitting term) are really pleasing and stand out despite the bright colourway. I hope to have this finished in time to wear to Mardi Gras, as it’s kind of the perfect mix of autistic/queer pride between the spiral design, the sensory friendly fabric and the rainbow colours. Pattern is Breathe by Siew Clark.

1) Why did you choose your URL?

Way back in the heyday of Angelfire, when you chose your URL, you had to choose from a set handful of two-letter combinations and then your chosen handle went on the end. ‘ia’ was one of the options, so I chose that and made my username ‘mshadow’. The 21 is because I like the number 21 and because some websites I’ve created accounts with, iamshadow has already been taken.

2) What is your middle name?

I don’t give out personal information, but I will say that it’s old-fashioned. Like my first name, which a couple of you know, it’s a name people associate more with old ladies than people in their thirties. I was given it because there were people with that name a few generations back on both sides of my family tree.

3) If you could own a fairytale/fictional pet, what would it be?

I used to want a pocket-sized dragon. Common, maybe, but no less awesome for it.

4) Favorite color?

Right now, probably purple, but I have strong loves for peacock blue, duck egg blue, jade green and cool yellow.

5) Favorite song?

I don’t really have one? I have very eclectic tastes and have handfuls of songs I like in many genres. If I had to pick one I come back to a lot, even though I don’t listen to a lot of electronic music, it’d be Massive Attack’s Teardrop. It was on one of my Triple J’s Hottest 100 albums that I bought around the time I left school, and I found it soothing to listen to on repeat while I was writing, many years before I was dignosed autistic and learned that aural stimming was a thing. I still use it sometimes when I get anxious to mellow me out and calm me.

6) What are your top three fandoms?

Right now, Marvel/Avengers is my primary, but I dabble in Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, CSI, Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie’s Marple/Poirot, White Collar, Welcome To Night Vale, and Endeavour/Inspector Morse/Lewis.

7) Why do you enjoy tumblr?

I love the fan content, especially the amount of visual media and meta.

8) Tag all 9 of your tumblr crushes (they have to do all 8 questions too who can do this if they like)

No obligation for anyone to do this at all (I rarely do memes myself), but people I love dearly and follow avidly on Tumblr include: @actuallyclintbarton @jabberwockypie @kath-ballantyne @randomyayness @neurowonderful @spiralstreesandcupsoftea @the-wordbutler @literalbookworm and @copperbadge

That throw is GORGEOUS!!! Well done – having knit something similar I know it must have taken ages – what a labour of love! Thank you for sharing and brightening my day and making my knitterly heart skip a beat 🙂

Thank you! It took me maybe two weeks? It was 8ply yarn and I knit all day, pretty much, so it went fairly swiftly. It was very heavy on the needles by the end, though, so I was glad to finish it.
