First of all, congratulations on your excellent taste. Second of all, this is a touch confusing so instead of trying to hunt up issue numbers I’m going to try and lump it together in trades for ease of reference. For those who don’t know what trades are, that’s basically the big ol’ collected editions of comics in the graphic novel section 🙂
ENJOY
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Bucky returns! It’s very angsty. You saw the movie)
- Captain America and Bucky: The Life Story of Bucky Barnes: A recap of the preceding adventures with gorgeous art and bonus Natasha.
- Captain America: Fallen Son/The Man With No Face/Two Americas (Bucky Cap! Bucky has a lot of weird adventures, Zemo ties him to a rocket again, Red Skull’s crazy daughter starts a personal vendetta, Bucky and Sam are cute)
- Captain America: The Trial of Captain America (Red Skull’s crazy daughter leaks Bucky’s true i.d and past as the Winter Soldier to the press, Bucky stands trial for his crimes as the WS, is extradited to Russia because laws)
- Captain America: Prisoner of War (Bucky is shirtless in a Siberian Gulag and fights a bear. It’s the best thing ever. I got my copy signed by Sebstan because I love it so much. Bucky finds out he trained sleeper agents and decides to go back to being the Winter Soldier to take them down. Steve becomes Cap again.)
- Winter Soldier: Longest Winter/Broken Arrow/Widow Hunt: Bucky as the Winter Soldier takes down the sleeper agents at the cost of his relationship with the Black Widow, who is kidnapped and brainwashed into forgetting him completely. I cried for a thousand years.
- Winter Soldier: Electric Ghost (Bucky fights a lady named Tesla Tarasova (he killed her dad in his WS days), feels bad about his life, makes some new friends, and is a big old goofball about Natasha)
EXTRA CREDIT:
Black Widow: The Name of the Rose, which is mainly about Natasha but also features some very cute Buckynat.
All-Winners Squad: Band of Heroes, in which Bucky meets up with some old WW2 kid sidekick type buddies and it’s terribly sad/great
On NO ACCOUNT read anything by Rick Remender.

Watching a documentary about the Romanovs the other night
historymiss: It’s like Who Do You Think You Are for Natasha
copperbadge: Which is now a fic I want to write
copperbadge: Natasha goes on the show because it’s the best of a bad lot of PR options. Also she DID say she wanted to find herself
copperbadge: MCU-wise, if Nicholas had a couple of kids on the wrong side of the blanket, she could be a granddaughter or great-granddaughter, I suppose
archwrites: how would anyone get the red room data to find out, though
copperbadge: Well you wouldn’t need it necessarily. You could just DNA test her against the remains of the princesses.
Em: Putin makes her renounce any intention of making Russia a monarchy again and taking the throne
copperbadge: Ahahaha like Putin could. He just begs her not to invade.
Em: true but still. He tries to make it *look* like he’s controlling it, and Nat lets him because she can’t be bothered.
copperbadge: Well, she checks with Tony, and apparently it’d be bad for the economy if she sets herself up as Tsarina. Plus James would make a terrible Tsar.
copperbadge: And Steve’s right out. And Sam doesn’t want to.
Em: LOL
copperbadge: Clint DOES want to be Tsar but…no.
Levynite: dear gods no
i don’t even know what to say to this
While implying that things are better when people don’t think critically about what they read is clearly the mark of a free and enlightened society.
Critical thinking is bad and might be fascist. I could have sworn I saw that one on Fox News.
what is happening today?
it is apparently time for comics writers to rally against their fans again
Nice use of scare quotes there, ‘Brubaker’.
(slow, sarcastic clapping) No, no. The GOVERNMENT telling writers what they are allowed to write, often under the threat of imprisonment, torture, or death, is how that ‘worked.’ The READERSHIP saying ‘we do not like what you’ve written, and we are not interested in paying for it or anything else you’ve written, and we are encouraging your current employer to replace you with someone who can do the job better, because we consume their product, you goddamn HACK’ is how CAPITALISM works. I know it’s confusing, but they’re a little different.
And is he really doing this? Are we really comparing the threat placed on legitimate journalists and authors under a violent dictatorship or regime to the fan lead efforts to get a 3rd rate, misogynistic HACK removed from a flagship title? A flagship comic book title whose circulation numbers that he has driven into the ground? That’s… What we’re doing here.
Gotta say. I’m a little ‘outraged’ by his comparison.
This is one of those cases of bizarre “logic” that I don’t even know how to refute it because the person is operating from such a faulty premise. You have to backtrack SO far just to even try to follow their train of thought.
I want to send vitriolic hate mail to every comics professional who has come down defending Remender, but I do not have the mental energy for it.
