#YES #sebstan’s best quote about the winter soldier #it’s not that he’s the blank murder puppet or full of programs and routines #it’s that bucky’s mind is all loose threads #hydra cut his connections#so there’s ‘him’ and there’s his ‘identity’ and ‘memory’ and ‘feeling’ #and where everyone has ties and reasons and contexts #there’s just the winter soldier and disconnected fragments of information#he loses his ‘why’ and it works just fine for hydra #because the soldier has all this skill that they can build upon but when he uses them they don’t have meaning anymore #when he’s left to his own devices without a higher perogative #his mind wanders and stumbles over bits and pieces of something anything #a snippet of a song he heard when he was a child #the taste of his mother’s cooking and warmth of the stray dog he’d given a pat in france #but they don’t mean anything to him#it’s just a song just a flavor just fur under his palm #how they relate to him is lost #bucky barnes is isolated and cut off in his own mind and he’s floating in the shards of who he used to be #but without any connections or tethers they can’t ever come together in full to place an ”identity’ to who ‘he’ is #a mission is a tether and thus when the soldier is working the fragments cease to register #but the man who tagged him with a NAME who tagged him as a person as a friend as someone who belonged somewhere #the sudden connection is what fucks the soldier up because it’s so strong and compelling and he can’t fucking let it go #because he hasn’t had anything in so long #for the first time in a long time #this means something #bucky barnes #meta

Bucky’s not the guy who cries during fights. He’s not. He’s better than that, and really, their fights are never that bad. They shout, they throw up their hands, one of them slams a door, and usually that’s enough. They’ve never argued about the big things. They talk them out.

But sometimes, Steve says something, and— Bucky knows he’s turned out okay. He knows he’s pulled himself together, knows he’s not the fucked up kid with the bad grades and worse attitude who rolled into town all those years ago. He’s put himself back together, become the man he wanted to be, and he’s got Steve and Dot and all their friends because he worked hard to get here. But sometimes, when they’re arguing, Steve’ll send him this look and use the word disappointed instead of pissed off, and it’s like a Pavlovian response.

Because, yeah, Steve’s disappointed at Bucky for forgetting about those plans they made three months back and double-booking, or for forgetting Dot at the grocery store (for ten minutes, Steve, come on), or for bitching about his frustration about something to Natasha and Clint when Steve was in earshot and also, when Bucky hadn’t said anything to Steve. He knows it’s situational.

But he feels like the disappointment’s broader, and deeper, and that he might lose everything. Just in that second. Just when Steve pulls out the d-word.

He feels like a fucked-up fifteen-year-old, when Steve’s disappointed in him.

It takes Steve’s arms to remember he’s not.

some people say there’s a red string that connects fated lovers

psa don’t look at the notes bc there are so many people completely missing the point that these are non-romantic strings of fate and making jokes about where the red string “must be” and it’s making me really angry bc we can’t even have a good artistic representation of aromanticism without people desperately grasping for a romantic interpretation somehow

like the artist has specifically requested that people stop making this about their fandoms and romance bc it’s a personal piece about aromanticism
