25% of the people have a 4th cone and see colors as they are

Given the sudden interest for the color of dresses and vision, here some of the fascinating findings we did recently.

The color nuances we see depend on the number and distribution of cones (=color receptors) in our eye. You can check this rainbow: how many color nuances do you count?

You see less than 20 color nuances: you are a dichromats, like dogs, which means you have 2 types of cones only. You are likely to wear black, beige, and blue. 25% of the population is dichromat.

You see between 20 and 32 color nuances: you are a trichromat, you have 3 types of cones (in the purple/blue, green and red area). You enjoy
different colors as you can appreciate them. 50% of the population is
trichromat.

You see between 33 and 39 colors: you are a
tetrachromat, like bees, and have 4 types of cones (in the purple/blue,
green, red plus yellow area). You are irritated by yellow, so this color
will be nowhere to be found in your wardrobe. 25% of the population is
tetrachromat.

You see more than 39 color nuances: come on, you are
making up things! there are only 39 different colors in the test and
probably only 35 are properly translated by your computer screen anyway
🙂

It is highly probable that people who have an additional 4th
cone do not get tricked by blue/black or white/gold dresses, no matter
the background light 😉

(x)

I see 21 colors. I had no idea there are so many more.

I see 35-39 colours, and I hate the colour yellow. That was actually what made me curious enough to stop scrolling and count. Who knew there was a scientific reason behind my colour preferences?

So the idea here is that what I see as annoyingly, garishly bright, most people don’t see as clearly, and that’s why it’s “cheerful?” (I’ve never understood that description of yellow.)

I barely saw 18 or 19. Dang :/

Aiight genuinely I see 40 tho. :/ and yellow is nasty

ETA: Ok I recounted and found 39

39. 🙂

But I already knew I had really good colour discernment from other web tests, years ago.

“Straight couples shouldn’t be at pride”

Well uh

1.) one or both of people you see as a “straight couple” could be pan/bi/poly/ace

2.) one or both of them could be trans or non binary

3.) you could be misgendering someone

4.) They could be there to give moral support to a queer friend or family member who didn’t want to go alone.

Number four is important

5. They could be there because they support the cause stop fucking gatekeeping

6. They could be there in memory of a loved one, don’t forget Pride used to be a memorial as well as a celebration. I know a good number of straight people who go to Pride to celebrate the lives of friends and family who have died because they want to remember them as they lived, happy and joyful and surrounded by a community that loved them.

ALL OF THE FUCKING ABOVE.

7. They could be questioning or closeted about their gender and/or sexuality, or not ready to question their gender and/or sexuality, but still want to attend pride, either to experience being around people like themselves or to ‘test the waters’ in an open event that doesn’t have the loaded weight of walking into an explicitly queer space like a club, social group or community centre. These people might be closeted or questioning forever, or attending pride as a ‘passing straight’ person might be their first step into a deeper community engagement.

8. Open events are so important for this segment of our community for reasons of safety, too. People who CANNOT be open in their personal life can watch a parade or go to a park event without it being as implicitly indicative of their identity. Very important for vulnerable people (teens, disabled people, etc.) who are dependent on carers who might be unaccepting of their gender or sexuality.

“Depression turns you into a series of nouns, without the adjectives and without the verbs. You don’t remember where you misplaced your descriptions, your actions
You become: bed, shower, socks, coffee, keys, obligations.”— A Series of Nouns

Real talk, I know a lot of you followed me for this post and I gotta say that I’m so grateful because through this one little post I’ve managed to meet so many people that struggle with depression like I do, so many supportive, loving people and I guess I just wanted to say thank you.

I made this post—just kind of threw it together, really— right after getting out of a particularly difficult therapy session. The Hawkeye comics have gotten me through a lot of dark times and I feel such a connection with Clint. I’m just grateful that you were able to feel the same, and I’m sorry for why you were able to feel it, because that means you’ve been through this to some extent and that sucks. It really does.

I guess the other thing I really wanted to say was that the adjectives and verbs come back, I promise you they do. Take those nouns and own them for now, because before you know it, you become “hell yeah imma go to bed because i can”, and "a shower will make me feel better” and “these are my favorite socks”, and “fuck yeah i love coffee”, and “where the hell are my keys?” and those obligations? They’re always gonna be there but sometimes they’re not as bad as you’d think, sometimes they actually are fucking amazing.

You, me, and Clint, we’ll all get better together. So don’t think those words are gone forever, you’re more than just a series of nouns.

I just found out Bishop from the X-Men comics is canonically an Aboriginal Australian and now I’m super angry because they had the opportunity in the film of Days of Future Past to put an Aboriginal actor on the world stage and they went ‘nup, we’re gonna cast this African-French guy instead’.

Seriously, it’s the twenty-first century and even with it being an American film, they have HUGH FUCKING JACKMAN as their star, and you can bet that if they’d struck out in casting, they could have called him, and he would have been, ‘Yeah, mate, sure. I got some names for you, get a pen.’

Fucking racism. You can’t just sub one brown or black person out for someone of a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT heritage and it not matter.
